CSU falls behind early and drops straight set decision at Radford
RADFORD, Va. – Charleston Southern fell behind early and was unable to catch up as CSU dropped a straight set decision on Saturday at Radford, 25-19, 25-9, 25-18.
CSU falls to 8-21, 3-12 following the loss, while Radford improves to 22-3, 12-2 with the win. Kylie Klein and Brooke Monssen led CSU with six kills each, while Madison Martin paced the Bucs defensively with 21 digs.
Radford jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the first set after a Maddie Palmer kill. Addison Kaderli cut the lead with a kill to narrow the margin to 13-6. Four straight points from the Highlanders put them in front 17-6. Radford led 23-9 when the Bucs went on a run and scored eight points in a row to trim the lead to 23-17 following a Kylie Klein kill. Four points later, the Highlanders held on to close the first set on a Haley Kleespies kill.
Radford took an 11-2 lead in the second set on a CSU attack error. The lead for the Highlanders grew to 16-3 after an Amaya Rousseau kill. The Bucs then scored four of the next five points to cut the lead to 17-7 on a Klein kill. Radford led 19-8 when the Highlanders won six of the next seven points to secure the set and take a 2-0 lead.
A Palmer kill gave Radford an 8-4 lead in the third set. Kaderli's kill trimmed the lead to 8-6, but the Highlanders scored five straight points to take a 13-6 advantage. A Monssen kill cut the lead to 17-11. Kleespies had a kill to give Radford a 22-13 lead. CSU narrowed the margin to 24-18, but a service error by the Bucs gave the Highlanders the set and the match.
Inside the Numbers
·      Rachel Smith had 17 assists and five digs for Charleston Southern.
·      Kylie Klein had six kills and three blocks for the Bucs. Klein is fifth all-time at CSU with 412 blocks.
·      Madison Martin had 21 digs to give her nine straight matches with double-digit digs.

·      Charleston Southern dropped its eighth straight Big South match. The last win for the Bucs was in four sets over Gardner-Webb on Oct. 13.
·      CSU fell to Radford for the third straight time. The last win for the Bucs over the Highlanders was on Oct. 14, 2016.
