CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern had strong efforts all around in Lynchburg and Columbia as the Buccaneers closed out their final meets prior to the 2019 Big South Indoor Championships.
Liberty Elite Invitational
Javenique McDowell was the top Buccaneer finisher in the women's 500m race at the Liberty Elite Invitational. She narrowly missed out on the top-three finish crossing the line in 1:20.00 to place fourth in the field.
Milan Williams paced the Bucs in the women's shot put at Liberty. The junior reached 11.36m to place 14th overall in the event.
In her signature event, the reigning Big South Indoor Field Athlete of the Week was one of five athletes to crack the 17-meter mark in the women's weight throw. Williams reached 17.13m to place fifth overall in the event.
Makennah Mills paced the Bucs in the women's mile run in Lynchburg. The freshman was 15th in the field in 5:21.45 to lead CSU.
Zanelle Willemse led four Buccaneers in the top-seven in the women's 5000m race at Liberty. Willemse finished fourth overall in 19:20.57, while Bethany Thornhill was one second back in fifth after crossing in 19:21.55. Taylor Barnes (19:56.70) and Darrian Cole (20:16.16) finished sixth and seventh to round out the group.
Rhone' Allen led four Buccaneers in the women's 200m dash on Saturday. The freshman was 31st overall in the field with a time of 25:18, while Eden Senior crossed in 25.93 to place 45th in the field. Shantel Ardley was 53rd in 26.13 and Chaneal Harris rounded out the group in 26.63 to place 71st.
Caroline Edmondson reprised her role as the CSU leader as the junior took on the field in the women's 800m race. She finished 26th overall in 2:20.83 to pace the Bucs in the event.
Charleston Southern hits the road for the 2019 Big South Indoor Championships hosted in Lynchburg, Va. at the Liberty Indoor Track & Field Complex on February 15-16.
