Spiecha's shot put record leads Bucs at Tiger Tune-Up

CLEMSON, S.C. - Ryan Spiecha shattered Charleston Southern's indoor shot put record for the second time this season as the freshman led the Buccaneers at the Tiger Tune-Up on Friday.

Spiecha continued a record-setting freshman campaign with a fourth-place result in the men's shot put event. The Fayetteville, Ga. native threw a school-record 15.54m on his fourth throw of the afternoon to pace the Bucs in the event.

Josiah Edwards narrowly missed a podium finish in the men's high jump with a distance of 1.90m to finish fourth in the field.

Niegel Simmons was fifth overall in the men's long jump with a distance of 7.06m. The freshman reached the mark in his final jump of the day.

Milan Williams led the Bucs in the women's shot put with a sixth-place finish in the event. The freshman connected on her longest throw of the afternoon on her initial toss achieving a distance of 10.86m.

Williams also paced CSU in the women's weight throw event with a third-place finish. The freshman connected on a long throw of 17.19m, the second-longest toss in CSU program history to sit on the podium in the event.

Shantel Ardley led the Buccaneers in the women's 400m dash placing 16th overall with a time of 59.64. Destinie Little finished two spots back, crossing the line with a time of 1:01.54.

Emma-Lisa Murphy placed seventh overall in the women's 1-mile run as the senior crossed the line with a time of 5:30.58.

Caroline Edmondson and Little both took on the field in the women's 60m hurdles event. Edmondson finished 10th overall in the field with a time of 9.31, while Little crossed the line one spot behind with a time of 9.61.

Anaia Hood finished sixth overall in the field in the women's long jump event with a long distance of 5.06m. The sophomore jumper achieved the mark on her third jump of the day.

Alexus Foreman also competed in the weight throw in achieving a long throw of 13.07m to finish 11th overall in the field. Madison McCoy finished one position back with a long distance of 11.59m.

Justin Green paced CSU's sprinters in the men's 200m dash finishing 16th overall with a time of 22.79.

Sheldon Townsend finished 10th overall in the men's 400m dash with a time of 51.74.

Dadrekas Hill led the Bucs in the 60m hurdles in crossing the line in 9.25 to finish 12th overall.

Timothy Davis finished sixth overall in the men's triple jump with a long distance of 14.29m.

JP Caglione finished sixth overall in the shot put field with a throw of 14.21m. 

Charleston Southern concludes the 2017 indoor season next weekend at the Big South Indoor Track and Field Championships at the JDL Fast Track on February 25-26 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
