CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Charleston Southern earned the No. 5 seed in the 2019 Big South Softball Championships presented by Musco Sports Lighting as released by the conference office on Saturday evening. The conference championships will be held at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium on the campus of Campbell University on May 8-11.
The Bucs will face a familiar foe in the tournament's opening round as CSU will take on No. 4 Winthrop on Wednesday, May 8, at noon. The first two days of the tournament will be carried live via ESPN3, while the semifinals and championship game will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Buccaneers (12-12 Big South) earned the No. 5 seed over No. 6 Radford (12-12) courtesy of their series win over the Highlanders at the CSU Softball Field on March 15-16. The Bucs took the first and third games of the three-game series to hold the edge over the Highlanders in the final conference standings.
For the first time since 2016, Longwood is the No. 1 seed in the Big South Softball Championship. The Lancers finished 2019 with a 20-4 Big South record (34-19 overall) to win the outright regular-season championship.
Big South newcomer USC Upstate is the No. 2 seed after concluding league play two games back of Longwood at 18-6. Campbell, this season's host, is the No. 3 seed with a 14-9 league record. The Camels currently ride a six-game winning streak entering the postseason.
Winthrop claimed the No. 4 seed at 14-10, while Charleston Southern and Radford tied for fifth in the final standings with identical 12-12 conference records.
The 2019 Softball Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting begins Wednesday, May 8 with three games scheduled and concludes Saturday, May 11 with two potential Championship contests starting at 12:00pm.
Games on May 8-9 will be carried on the ESPN3, while the semifinals and championship day will be available on ESPN+. The Big South's champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Softball Championship.
