CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston put four runs across the plate in the top of the first as the Cougars pulled away from the host Buccaneers in the Lowcountry rivalry game on Wednesday afternoon, 8-0.
The Bucs (5-18) put together three hits against CofC starter Chandler Speakman (2-2) on the afternoon with Caitlyn Emberson, Jade Gandara, and Brooklynn Brewington all singling off the junior right-hander.
Arizona Pilgrim (2-9) suffered the loss against the Cougars (9-9) after going 0.1 innings pitched and allowing two hits and four runs. Holly Clark went the bulk of the game in relief with the junior right-hander pitching 5.2 innings and scattering seven hits while striking out five.
Ginna Leaphart paced the Cougars at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance to go with a trio of RBI. Gracyn Thrasher connected on a solo home run in the top of the seventh off CSU reliever Alyssa Heinrich to cap the scoring as the Cougars recorded seven extra-base hits in the game.

- Ginna Leaphart's two-run double off the wall in right centerfield highlighted CofC's four-run first inning as the Cougars took control of the game early.
- Noel Dominguez added to the lead with a two-run double to left field scoring Sparkman and Lexee Emanuel to put CofC ahead 6-0 in the second inning.
- Leaphart's second RBI double came in the top of the fifth as the Cougars went ahead 7-0 as Jordan Barcus crossed the plate.
- Thrasher's solo home run to lead off the top of the seventh capped the scoring in the game.
Charleston Southern is back in action at the JU/UNF Spring Break Challenge on Saturday, March 9, as the Bucs take on Cleveland State and North Florida. The Bucs will close out the weekend against Georgetown and Jacksonville on Sunday.
