SB PREVIEW: Bucs welcome Chanticleers for midweek contest on ESPN+

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern softball team is back in action this week for a mid-afternoon contest against visiting Coastal Carolina on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch between the Buccaneers and the Chanticleers at the CSU Softball Field is set for 4 p.m.

CSU Softball Game Notes vs. Coastal Carolina

Wednesday's contest will be Charleston Southern's debut on ESPN+ as the Buccaneers host the Chanticleers. It is one of 12 scheduled home CSU contests to be featured on the worldwide network this season. John Peters and Larry Sienko will bring the action live at the CSU Softball Field this year.

CSU is coming off a strong opening weekend as the Bucs posted a 3-3 record at the Willie Jewell's Invitational. The Bucs made their debut under Head Coach Venus Taylor one to remember with a 9-1 win under the lights over Dayton.

Coastal Carolina (4-1) is also coming off a strong start to the 2019 season as well. The Chants picked up four wins at their season-opening Kickin' Chicken Classic held at the CCU Softball Field.

The Bucs continue the season this weekend with their second consecutive home tournament as CSU welcomes Detroit Mercy and East Tennessee State to the CSU Softball Field on February 15-17.

CSU Quick Notes
- Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina both hosted tournaments over their opening weekends.

- CSU went 3-3 overall over the opening weekend with wins over Dayton and UMES (twice).

- Coastal Carolina went 4-1 over the opening weekend with wins over Rider (twice), Boston, and UIC.

- Caitlyn Emberson leads the Bucs with nine RBI in addition to her home run.

- Eight of CSU's nine batters in the lineup recorded hits in Sunday's contest.

- CSU's pitching staff posted a 2.95 ERA over the first weekend of the season.

- Jade Gandara finished the weekend with 143 career RBI to overtake Jana Matthews (141, 2010-13) and become the all-time leader in CSU softball program history in the category.

- Coastal Carolina finished the season-opening Kickin' Chicken Classic at home this past weekend with a 4-1 record.

- Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern used to face off multiple times every season when the duo were both members of the Big South Conference.
