Bucs in five different NCAA Top 25 team statistical categories following third week of season

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Three weeks into the season and Charleston Southern has moved up in both the NCAA and Big South leaders in multiple categories in the 2018 season.

The Bucs sit in the top 25 in five separate NCAA team categories and seven individuals are in the top 50 in multiple categories. The Bucs also dot the top three in the Big South in multiple team and top 10 multiple individual categories on the year.

Thanks to the power surge this past weekend that featured 12 home runs and more than 20 extra base hits, Charleston Southern moved into the top 10 in home runs per game and slugging percentage on the season. The Bucs are tied for fifth overall in total home runs (22) and are fifth in team home runs per game at 1.47. CSU is also fifth in slugging percentage at .595 on the season.

Eight different players in the CSU lineup are hitting above .300 on the year to help the Bucs move to 17th in the country with a team batting average of .337. The Bucs' offensive binge also put CSU 15th in the country in scoring with 6.93 runs per game. CSU is also 25th in the country in on-base percentage at .410. CSU also made moves in the stolen base game as the Bucs are 36th in the country with 1.80 steals per game.

Jade Gandara boasts the top individual rankings for CSU in the NCAA rankings with a quartet of top 10 rankings. Gandara is sixth in total RBI (22), seventh in toughest to strikeout (46.0), eighth in total home runs (6), and 10th in total bases (44). She also makes appearances in multiple other categories including RBI per game (14th, 1.47), hits (18th, 22), slugging percentage (19th, 0.957), home runs per game (22nd, 0.40), runs per game (48th, 1.07), and batting average (50th, 0.478).

Caitlyn Emberson is tied for 12th overall in doubles (6), 45th in hit by pitch per game (0.33), and 48th in runs per game (1.07).

Mallory Kasinger is tied with Emberson for 12th overall in doubles (6), tied for 39th in home runs (4), 49th in slugging percentage (.854), and 29th in total bases (35).

Nina Del Rio makes her first appearance in the NCAA rankings courtesy of her power surge this past weekend. Del Rio is 39th in home runs (4) and is 29th in the NCAA in saves (1) on the season.

Sarah Brown is 16th in the NCAA in sacrifice flies on the year with two.

Holly Clark is 12th in the NCAA in shutouts with three.

Annie Bakenhus is 36th in the NCAA in toughest to strikeout on the season at 30.0.

Meghan Gagliano's speed outburst moved her into 18th in the NCAA in stolen bases per game at 0.83.

The Bucs' success over the past weekend translated into multiple top appearances in the Big South standings. As a team, CSU currently paces the Big South in batting average (.337), runs (104), home runs (22), RBI (97), ERA (2.01), wins (12), and shutouts (5).

Kasinger and Emberson lead the Big South in doubles (6), while Emberson also paces the conference in walks (10). Gagliano is the conference leader in steals (10).
