Caglione and Davis take individual titles to highlight CSU's efforts on final day of Big South Indoor Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Charleston Southern's men's track & field team finished up the 2019 Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday afternoon with the Buccaneers placing fourth overall in the team standings.

JP Caglione (weight throw) and Timothy Davis' (triple jump) individual titles helped lead five Buccaneers to All-Conference recognition on the final day of events.

Junior sprinter Justin Green was recognized on the All-Academic team after posting a 3.34 GPA while majoring in Kinesiology.

The Bucs finished up the weekend with 110 points overall to wrap up behind Hampton (169), Campbell (160) and High Point (130). USC Upstate (36) rounded out the top five.



Vincent Johnson continues to remain among the conference's elite in the hurdles as the junior was back on the podium in the men's 60m hurdle event. Johnson finished second overall in 8.01 to lead the Bucs.

Josiah Scarlett and Justin Green finished sixth and seventh in the men's 400m dash finals on Saturday. Scarlett crossed the line in 49.74, while Green finished in 50.19 to highlight CSU's efforts in the event.

Senior Joshua Paramore was seventh overall in the men's 60m dash finals featuring the conference's premier sprinters. Paramore crossed the line in 7.09.

Andrew Akright and Jaymee Domoney were among the finalists in the men's 800m race. Akright placed sixth overall in the field in 1:56.64, while Domoney was eighth overall in 2:00.23.

Justin Green took eighth in the men's 200m dash. The junior crossed the line in 22.25 to round out the group in the finals.

CSU was unable to overcome Hampton in the men's 4x400m relay. The Bucs quartet of Phillip Finsterwalder, Josiah Scarlett, Justin Green, and Vincent Johnson crossed the line in 3:18.72 to finish behind the Pirates in the final event of the championships.

Frankie Thomas was fourth overall in the men's high jump finals to pace the Bucs on Saturday. Thomas reached 1.95m on the afternoon to finish just off the podium in the event.

Timothy Davis wrapped up his weekend at the Big South Championships with the title in the men's triple jump. Davis was the lone athlete to clear 15 meters on Saturday with his mark of 15.01 coming on his fourth attempt of the day and established a new personal record for the junior. Richard Sharp placed 11th in the field with a distance of 12.68m

JP Caglione and Seth Wolfe finished 1-2 in the men's weight throw event to highlight a successful weekend for the Buccaneers. Caglione tied his school-record mark with his fifth throw reaching 18.68m to win the event. Wolfe's second throw reached 17.27m to put him squarely in second in the field to highlight his first All-Conference honors. Ryan Spiecha (15.52m, 8th) and Clarence Moss (14.74m, 10th) also took on the field for the Bucs in the event.

Andrew Akright led three Buccaneers in the men's mile run on Saturday afternoon. The sophomore narrowly missed out on the podium finish placing fourth overall in 4:15.44, while teammate Jaymee Domoney was eighth in 4:28.85. David Bergamasco was 11th in the field in 4:32.31.

Jeryck Wilson was just off the pace in the men's 3000m race to highlight three Buccaneers in the distance event. The junior placed fourth overall in 8:39.46 to lead the Bucs, while Matt Inman crossed the line sixth overall in 8:48.43. Trevor Dominy was 10th to wrap up the group for CSU after finishing in 8:59.48.
