Moore, 4x400 relay team, lead Bucs at Wake Forest Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Charleston Southern shot putter Jacob Moore, and the 4x400 relay team each earned second place finishes to lead the way at the season-opening Wake Forest Invitational on Saturday.

Moore matched his personal best from last season with a toss of 14.29 meters. He added a weight throw of 13.55 meters to take fifth place in that field.

Kaishon Murray, Josiah Scarlett, Sheldon Townsend and E.J. Reddick teamed to run in 3:32.63 and earn runner-up honors in the field of seven teams.

CSU senior Jared Watkins provided the top individual performance for head coach Roosevelt Lofton's Bucs. Watkins placed fifth in the long jump, leaping 6.49 meters.

"I was really happy with Jacob's effort and the way we performed as a team for our first meet of the indoor season," Roosevelt said. "We showed a lot of positive potential for the future."

Scarlett completed a strong first day of collegiate competition, as the freshman finished in the top half of the 600-meter dash field. He crossed the finish line in 1:28.28 to take 28th in a field of 21 sprinters. Fellow freshman Josh Paramore achieved a 14th place showing in the 60-meter dash, running in 7.07 seconds.

CSU is next in action on Jan. 31 at the Privateer Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama.
