CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - Charleston Southern freshman Alan Smith was recognized as this week's Big South Men's Golf Freshman of the Week by the conference office as announced on Thursday afternoon.
The CSU freshman claimed conference honors after a standout performance at the Furman Intercollegiate where he paced the Bucs over the final round.
Smith carded a 7-over 220 (75-75-70) at the Furman Intercollegiate (par 71, 6,984 yards) to help the Buccaneers to a seventh-place finish out of 21 squads -- which was the highest standing among the five Big South squads competing.
His 1-under 70 in the final round tied as the best on the squad in the event, and marked his second-lowest 18-hole score of the year.
Charleston Southern is back in action this weekend at the Wofford Invitational held on April 1-2 at the Country Club of Spartanburg.
