Austin James to make PGA Tour debut at RBC Canadian Open

CHARLESTON, S.C. –  Austin James will become the third Buc to play in a PGA Tour event this week. James earned a sponsor's exemption into the RBC Canadian Open and will tee off his first round off the tenth hole Thursday at 9 a.m. at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ontario.

2017 RBC Canadian Open

James has spent the summer as part of Golf Canada's 2017 Men's National Amateur Squad. The Bath, Ontario, product joins Jason Caron (Class of 1994) and Kelvin Day (Class of 2010) as the only other CSU products to compete on the PGA Tour.

James helped CSU reach back-to-back NCAA Regionals in 2015 and 2016. He advanced to the quarterfinals of the United States Amateur in 2015 and carried that momentum forward with a huge junior campaign. James was the 2015-16 Big South Player of the Year, earned medalist honors at the Big South Championship with an 11-under par tally, ranked as high as 16th nationally in scoring average and was a semifinalist for the Jack Nicklaus Award, presented annually to collegiate golf's National Player of the Year.

James will play alongside Mark Anderson and Sebastian Munoz in Thursday's opening round. The 72-hole event will continue through Sunday, with televised coverage available on the Golf Channel and CBS.

The Canadian Open is the third oldest national championship in golf behind the British Open and U.S. Open. This marks the 29th time it is being played at the Jack Nicklaus designed Glen Abbey Golf Club. Jhonattan Vegas is the event's defending champion.
